'Kirk Douglas'.

En el dia d’ahir va morir el nominat al Oscar Kirk Douglas a l’edat de 103 anys, Hollywood va inundar les xarxes socials amb homenatges al icona, inclòs el seu fill i actor Michael Douglas, que podeu llegir aquí una mica més avall (Des de THR).

Douglas va ser més conegut pel seu treball a ‘Spartacus’, ‘Paths of Glory’, ‘Ace in the Hole’, ‘The Vikings’, ‘Lust for Life’, ‘Champion’, ’20.000 Leagues Under the Sea’, ‘Gunfight at the O.K. Corral’, ‘The Man From Snowy River’, ‘Tough Guys’, ‘Greedy’, ‘The Bad and the Beautiful' i 'It Runs in the Family’ (que van protagonitzar tres generacions de Douglas, inclòs el fill de Kirk, Michael Douglas, el fill de Michael, Cameron Douglas. Diana Douglas, la mare de Michael i la ex dona de Kirk, també va protagonitzar).

Douglas també va ser una veu memorable convidada a The Simpsons l’any 1996, també va aparèixer en un episodi de ‘Tales From the Crypt’ anomenat ‘Yellow’, que va ser dirigit per Robert Zemeckis i va presentar el seu últim fill Eric, que va morir l’any 2004.

Una de les seves grans contribucions històriques, va ser acabar efectivament la llista negra de Hollywood, al insistir en que s’acredités a Dalton Trumbo com el escriptor de ‘Spartacus’ dirigida per Stanley Kubrick. Douglas va escriure un llibre sobre com fer la pel·lícula titulada ‘I Am Spartacus!’ Fent una pel·lícula, trencant la llista negra. ‘Spartacus’, amb un pressupost de $12M, va ser la pel·lícula més cara mai realitzada en el moment que es va estrenar, l’any 1960, i Douglas era conegut per exercir un immens poder en el set.

It is with tremendous sadness that my brothers and I announce that Kirk Douglas left us today at the age of 103. To the world he was a legend, an actor from the golden age of movies who lived well into his golden years, a humanitarian whose commitment to justice and the causes he believed in set a standard for all of us to aspire to. But to me and my brothers Joel and Peter he was simply Dad, to Catherine, a wonderful father-in-law, to his grandchildren and great grandchild their loving grandfather, and to his wife Anne, a wonderful husband. Kirk's life was well lived, and he leaves a legacy in film that will endure for generations to come, and a history as a renowned philanthropist who worked to aid the public and bring peace to the planet. Let me end with the words I told him on his last birthday and which will always remain true. Dad- I love you so much and I am so proud to be your son. #KirkDouglas
